OYEGUN’s CLAIM OF FINANCIAL INDUCEMENT, PRESIDENT JONATHAN’S APPLICATION FOR LOAN TO FIGHT BOKO HARAM AND ADAMAWA SAGA; A CLARION CALL TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY.
By – Tosin Alonge
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Oyegun, has raised a very weighty & damning allegation against the presidency regarding the present impeachment current that has filled our atmosphere. He alleged that members of state house of assemblies in Adamawa, Edo, Nasarawa & Rivers have been seduced & induced with huge amount of money to impeach their respective state governors. He even went as far as quoting figures which makes research into such allegation more easy, interesting & unambiguous.
Our annual budget as a nation has been high courtesy of boko haram insurgency. Despite the volume of funds devoted to combating this terrorism to a standstill, or a bearest minimum, the battle remains as fierce as it has been. Our soldiers are falling in a manner that could best be described as insulting. Our men in ‘Kaki’ that are respected even outside our territory.
Just this week, our president wrote to the National Assembly, upper chamber in particular, about his intention to apply for loan in the tune of $1b to better equip our military in a bid to finishing ‘Boko’ fighters. Going by the allegation of Chief Oyegun, if true anyway, one will seriously question the rationality of the president of the most populous nation in Africa.
Nigeria is currently number three country that houses the highest number of poor people in the world behind China & India. While that case of China & India may be considerable due to the large size of their population relative to their natural resources, the case is however disheartening in Nigeria that houses less than 1/8 of the population of either of the two nations earlier mentioned & with so much resources; human & mineral, that can adequately cater for her people, if well managed.
Economically, it is an act of irrationality to obviously misplaced priorities. Hypothetically, if a man has $1 and two needs A and B, & A is more pressing to him than B, & given that the $1 will adequately settle each of the needs. It will be expected that in line with the principle of rationality, he settles A first. Settling B while leaving A pending amounts to a waste & unmaximised utility.
Given that president Jonathan is faced with issue of national interest & that which is personal & unproductive, one will expect him to settle former first. Hence, borrowing to fight boko haram when some amounts were lavishly disbursed into individual’s pocket ( that is if Chief Oyegun’s allegation is something to go by) is not & should never be made acceptable.
It is on this note that we must all visit our representatives in the National Assembly & demand that they urgently & openly investigate the allegation of Chief Oyegun against President Goodluck.
This is necessary to save our collapsing economy. If a nation borrows from IMF for example, they become dictators over economic policies.
