TEMPTATION – PART ONE

MEMORY VERSE: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it”. 1Corinthians 10:13

BIBLE PASSAGE: James 1:12-16

INTRODUCTION: Temptation implies to present inducements to sin. God does not tempt man- James 1:13. Satan is the great tempter- Matthew 4:3, seeking effectually to destroy men’s souls -1Chronicles 21:1. Men are also led into sin by their own lust and evil inclinations and by other men-James 1:14-15.

OUTLINES

1. GOD’S FATHERLY ROLE
2. WHY DOES GOD ALLOW TEMPTATION?

GOD’S FATHERLY ROLE

God, being holy and desirous of men’s holiness, does not tempt them -James 1:2-3. God never allows us to be tempted beyond our ability to endure and triumph victoriously. He also makes a way of escape -1Corinthians 10:13 and stands ready to support His people under any possible temptation – Hebrews 2:18. Christ, our Helper, is familiarwith temptation – Hebrews4:15, Matthew 4:1·4. God has put certain restrictions upon Satan’s efforts and has limited his power in that he must request permission of God to come against us. Job 1:12.

WHY DOES GOD ALLOW TEMPTATION?

The primary purpose of temptation, if overcome, is to “perfect” us, or to make us complete, Job 23:10. God tries us to prove, exercise, and establish our grace, James 1:1-4. We have the choice of what to do with each temptation: either to overcome it by God’s grace or to yield to it in sin. The reward for victory over temptation will be the crown of life – James 1:12. The result of defeat under temptation is death – EzekieI 18:4, James1:15.

CONCLUSION

It is hard to gain promotion without examination; hence, temptation is a test you must pass for divine elevation.
